This is a high resolution digital watercolor map of the world that can be printed in sizes up to 9×6 feet. The details at full size is shown below. The raw image is ~500Mb in size, and will be hosted here (uploading… it’s been uploading for the last 3h) You can click on the image above to download a more manageable sized image (1920x1200px, i.e., widescreen wallpaper size).
This is free in both senses of the word. You are free to download, print, and distribute the map for your own use. You are also free to modify, adapt, and build upon the image for non-commercial purposes with attribution.
A few print options are available from my DeviantArt page. If you do choose to order a print from DeviantArt, please know that my share of the proceeds will go towards the United World Colleges, a global educational movement that brings together students from all over the world –- selected on personal merit, irrespective of race, religion, politics and the ability to pay –- with the explicit aim of fostering peace and international understanding.
Credits: The original satellite data came from www.maps-for-free.com (Hans Braxmeier). This is a world map in the equidistant projection, and the distorted polar regions are cropped (sorry Ms. Penguin).
